USD 475 Westwood Elementary School teacher Abigail Buser has been named as one of 32 recipients of a 2019 Kansas Horizon Award. The recipients were announced by the Kansas State Department of Human Resources.

To be eligible for the award teachers must have successfully completed their first year of teaching and have performed in such a way as to distinguish themselves as outstanding.

The program is a regional competition with four regions corresponding to the state’s U.S. congressional districts. Four elementary and four secondary classroom teachers may be selected for the award from each region.

The first-year educators will be honored at a ceremony during the Kansas Educators Network State Education Conference on February 15th in Topeka.

Also among the Horizon Award recipients for 2019 was Macey Dinkel of Stafford Elementary School in Stafford USD 349.
