K-State’s Maary Lakes dismissed from women’s basketball program

Kansas State head women’s basketball coach Jeff Mittie announced Monday that sophomore center Maary Lakes has been dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules and conduct detrimental to the program.

“This is a very disappointing outcome as Maary was a student-athlete with so much potential,” Mittie said. “But, we have certain standards and expectations that all of our student-athletes must meet and when those standards are not met there are consequences. Maary was someone we thought deserved a second chance, but unfortunately, it is time for us to both move on, and we wish her nothing but the best.”

Lakes had played in 13 games this season, and averaged 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
