Members of the Greater Geary Community Foundation celebrated the second year of existence for the Foundation Friday evening. There was an announcement that Central Charities has joined.
On that announcement, Foundation Board Member Calvin Pottberg noted it makes the foundation much stronger. “We’re always here to support the community. It gives a chance for people that want to leave some money, that maybe have earned and made their living here, and they can leave some dollars here and depend on the Board that it will be well taken care of and go for community activities.”
Ed J. Rolfs, Bob Weary, Merrill Werts and John Montgomery were also recognized for their past leadership, and encouragement to get the foundation started.

Board member and Central National Bank Trust officer Duane Blythe said Central Charities was initially established in 1968 with “a sole purpose as a private foundation to receive contributions from Central National Bank and then make gifts, charitable distributions to local charities serving Geary County.”
Blythe credited the late E.J. Rolfs for his efforts to bring Central Charities into the foundation. he told the gathering Friday evening, “At the end of 2018 Central Charities will become a subsidiary of the Greater Geary Community Foundation. Through E.J. ‘s vision, efforts and persistence we now have the beginnings of the Greater Geary Community Foundation. Please join me in thanking the current Central Charities Board for their continued support.”
