Expect Another Draw Down at Milford Lake in the Future

The draw down of Milford Lake last winter is credited with helping prevent problems with zebra mussels and blue green algae watches and warnings at the reservoir this past summer.

State Representative Lonnie Clark of Junction City learned at a recent Governor’s Water Conference that the draw down will be done again. “They’re going to continue to try that draw down to kill the zebra mussels that it gets. It won’t get the ones that are still under water, but everything above the water line will die. They think that that was a real contributing factor to the success we had this year with no warnings, no closures, no anything.”

How far down the lake will be taken is still unknown. That will depend on such variables as the amount of rain received and the amount of water needed downstream.
