Have you paid the fee to register your car, but need a new license plate? They are supposed to arrive in the mail within a few days, but instead there have been lengthier delays. There has been a problem across the state.
Geary County Treasurer Kathy Tremont said beginning August 15th there was a change from receiving a license plate when you registered your vehicle. Instead it was supposed to be mailed to you within 5-10 days after making application for registration. “But now we’ve just passed our 30-day period and customers are not getting their plates and are obviously upset about it.”
Tremont explained her office has been put in a position where they cannot a lot about the situation, except to perhaps have them contact the State. “And the State really doesn’t have any action that they can take with it., so people are basically not getting a plate for their vehicle.”
The Geary County Treasurer’s Office has been able to issue a second 30-day permit, but Tremont noted a concern about that, saying they’re a bit leery about that. “People are going to start getting two plates, putting the wrong one on their vehicle and then I foresee a lot of problems in the future with trying to manage this.”
