Blues Festival Set in Junction City

The Junction City Blues Music Festival has been scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21st and 22nd in Heritage Park.

According to a release from the Geary County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau the hours will be 5:30 – 10 p.m. on the 21st and 12:30 – 10 p.m. on the 22nd. There will be free admission.

Spokesman Rick Dykstra confirmed instead of putting a stage for the performers on 6th Street the festival will utilize a stage in Heritage Park. Headline performing groups will include the Smokers Blues Band, Joyride Blues Band, Connie Hawkins and the Blues Wreckers and the Old No. #5 Blues Band.

Some of the performers are coming from other states, but Dykstra noted more local area bands are being used for the festival this year.

The Blues Music Festival is being held in lieu of Jammin In JC, which is not occurring this year. CVB officials hope it will return in 2019. There was a barbecue competition with Jammin In JC, but that will not be held this year.
