Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, has earned site accreditation for Centering Pregnancy from the Centering Healthcare Institute. Accreditation indicates IACH’s program meets quality standards and the practice is affiliated with an evidence-based model of group care.
Maj. Gen. John Kolasheski, the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, presented the certificate of accreditation this morning and recognized team members who were instrumental in the achievement.IACH underwent an on-site survey in April. During the review, a team of Centering Healthcare Institute expert surveyors evaluated compliance with standards related to several areas, including health assessments within group space, self-care activities, and core prenatal education content.
The program is an interdisciplinary model of empowerment designed and licensed by the Centering Healthcare Institute in Boston. Women meet with a provider and other women who are due near the same time for 10 sessions during their pregnancy. Sessions are 120 minutes long and include a health check-up.
IACH is one among seven facilities in the Army that have achieved site accreditation. It is the only accredited Centering site in Kansas. Since the program began in April 2017, about 180 patients have been empowered through the program. On average 20 – 24 expecting patients start Centering each month.
