The Junction City Brigade rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning to defeat the Topeka Golden Giants 7-4 in game two of the Cowdin Cup finals for the Mid Plains League championship. The series is now tied 1-1, with the deciding game three Saturday night at Lake Shawnee in Topeka. Game time will be 7 p.m.
In their win Friday night the Brigade got a standout pitching performance by Nate McBroom, who went seven and two-thirds innings on the mound before departing with two outs in the eighth inning and Junction City leading 7-2. The Golden Giants scored two runs in the eighth and had two on base in the ninth before the Brigade closed out the win.
Derek Francis, Junction City coach, said that was about as good as he had seen McBroom perform this summer. “The cool thing was he was on short rest. We wanted to pitch count him a little bit, but he started cruising and he wanted the baseball.” McBroom was pitching on three days rest.
Junction City got doubles from Carson Sader, Tanner Holen and Grant Goldston enroute to the win.
The Golden Giants won game one of the series Thursday night 3-2.
