Milford Lake Benefits from Lack of Blue Green Algae Problem

So far this summer Milford Lake has been free of any of the problems associated with blue green algae watches or warnings.

The mayor of the City of Milford, Brad Roether, explained local officials met with the state and Corps of Engineers officials where a plan was developed to lower the lake level. He noted whether it helped or not, the plan was initiated last year and again this year during the winter months. “And they held it down longer than they normally do. That has to help us.”

Roether pointed to another move where carp and gar were removed from the lake. “They have taken over 300,000 pounds of fish out of this lake.”

With the lack of the blue green algae issue and the impact, Roether said just look at the crowds. “It makes so much difference. Memorial weekend, our boat ramp at Milford I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that many boat trailers down there, all over the lake. When you don’t have it those people are coming.”
