A vintage World War One pocket compass has been donated to the Geary County Historical Museum.
According to the Museum Curator, Heather Hagedorn, the pocket compass was owned by an aviator in World War One, Jack Spencer, and was donated by his nephew Dan Spencer. “Planes were so new during World War I, the U.S. Air Force was not yet in existence, it was just a very small portion of the U.S. Army and they were just U.S. Army aviators.”
The pocket compass will have to be processed at the Museum, and then at some future point will be on display in the military exhibit, “Answering the Call,” in the Museum Auditorium.
