Blue Jays Win 11 of 12 Matches

The Blue Jay varsity tennis team played Thursday afternoon in the rescheduled Highland Park Quadrangular. Teams competing in the event were Shawnee Heights, Highland Park and Topeka West. The Blue Jay tennis team saw a lot of success on the day as they won 11 of the 12 matches.

In the first round against Shawnee Heights, the Blue Jays won all four matches. Kody Westerhaus and Yuno Fernandez won the singles events. Teaming up in doubles were Mason Richards and Luke Craft at the top doubles spot and Nolan Rothfuss and Aaron Reutzel at the second doubles spot.

The Blue Jays repeated their sweep in matches against Highland Park as Westerhaus and Craft won both singles events. Richards and Rothfuss teamed up to win doubles at the top spot and Reutzel and Fernandez won the other doubles spot.

In the final round, the Blue Jay tennis team won three of the four matches against Topeka West. Each of the matches was closely contested with Richards winning the top singles spot 8-6, Rothfuss and Craft winning the top doubles spot 8-6, Westerhaus and Fernandez winning their doubles match 8-5 and Reutzel dropping a tight match 8-6.

The Blue Jays next play on Tuesday, April 10 in Manhattan.
