Geary County Commissioner Ben Bennett has reopened the conversation on the sports complex issue in the community.
He told a meeting of city, county and USD 475 leaders “what a gem we could have” on the idea of developing a sports complex in conjunction with the new Junction City High School project.
Bennett noted putting a sports field and sports complex together just for high school would be “a waste of money. We can involve city and county and form a corporation of some type to provide all those facilities, to take care of them, and funding sources from all three…the school district, the city and the county working together to provide a quality program for our kids and to bring people to Junction City, and to bring them here for sporting events and activities.”
Bennett told the elected leaders it would take planning but the community could have a good sports complex with priority in-season use by USD 475, or perhaps could leave the sports complex at the site of the current sports facilities.
