Fort Riley Outdoorsmen Group to host youth turkey hunt

The Fort Riley Outdoorsmen Group hosts the annual youth mentorship spring turkey hunt April 7 and 8 at Fort Riley. Experienced turkey hunters from the group will guide youth age 9 to 15, along with disabled, first-time hunters and family members of deployed Soldiers.

No hunting experience is needed.  Guides will mentor youth by teaching safety and ethics and will assist in cleaning turkeys at the end of the hunt.  Guides will arrange for transportation to and from the hunting areas.

Youth must have a Unit 3 turkey permit and are encouraged to bring their own shotgun and shells.  A limited number of shotguns, shells and hunter orange garments are available for those who have none.

An orientation session takes place April 6 where youth can learn about hunting turkey, what to bring and wear, and tips about safely firing a shotgun.

The deadline for registration is March 23.  For more information or to sign up, email fortrileyoutdoorsmengroup@yahoo.com or david@huntfortriley.com.
