Work is proceeding on the new Junction City High School project.
According to a report compiled by Ferrell Miller of the Junction City Breakfast Optimist Club the Chief Operations Officer for USD 475, David Wild, reported to the club that architects are working with staff on a needs assessment, and conceptual drawings will be shared with the Board of Education after spring break. Site visits have been made to high schools in Wichita, Kansas City and the Dallas / Ft. Worth areas to see the construction and how their new structures are being used. Wild stated that officials took away concepts which may be incorporated into the new high school.
Kaw Valley Engineering has done site maps at the site targeted for the new school north of K-18 and just west of Junction City. A construction manager at risk will soon be selected and the eminent domain issue ( for the land ) may be decided by the court as early as mid-April. “there is a willing seller and a willing buyer. We just need to agree on the amount to be paid. ” The Court will make that decision. ” It may be possible to have a ceremonial groundbreaking in October of this year.”
Wild stated that he believes there will be a “WOW” factor when people walk into the new building. He noted it will be like stepping into a mall with open collaboration areas and the classic classroom setting in a business atmosphere with an emphasis on technology and academics.
