The Junction City Blue Jays will send seven wrestlers to the Class 6A State Tournament in Park City next week.

They include Matthew Whitton in the 126 pound weight class, Max Bazan at 132, Logan Roether 138, Russell Wilkey 152, Sadiki Smith 170, Terrance Adeleye 182 and Kenson Henderson at 220 pounds. The state tournament will be at Hartman Arena next Friday and Saturday.

The Blue Jays were in a tough 16-team regional tournament at Wichita South. Junction City Coach Bob Laster feels seven is a good number of qualifiers for state. He noted Bazan’s performance impressed him the most but so did that of two freshmen on the team. “Not surprised but really happy about the ninth graders being able to make it, whick were Sadiki Smith and Russell Wilkey. ”

The Blue Jays tallied 85 points to finish tenth in the team standings. Derby captured first place with 212 points.
