Battle of the Bulge Veterans to Meet

There will be an annual gathering of the Kansas Chapter of the World War II Battle of the Bulge veterans Saturday in Manhattan at the American Legion Post on McCall Road.

The organizer, Jim Sharp, said registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a program at 9 a.m. All Battle of the Bulge and World War II veterans are being invited to attend. They’ll receive free admission. “We hope there’ll be a few there that will share their stories.

Sharp, a native of the White City area, fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He was in Company B, 18th Infantry in Belgium during the battle.

Sharp said the gathering Saturday is an opportunity to reminisce about what happened during the battle. “Some of these things we don’t like to remember because Hitler’s tanks and his Panzer troops were pretty tough fighters but it’s always good to reminisce about what happened and see the old Soldiers.”
