Nine Wildcats Named to Academic All-Big 12 Team

cross-country-3MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State cross country team saw nine student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 Cross Country Team, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.

In all, 114 student-athletes throughout the conference were named to either the first or second teams, with 44 selections coming on the men’s team and 70 selections coming from the women.

“These kids work really hard in the classroom as well as work hard to become good runners,” head cross country coach Ryun Godfrey said. “It is good to see them recognized for all of their efforts in the classroom.

Named to the first team were: Joe Gorthy, Sam Oxandale, Bryan Zack, Kayla Doll, Marija Stambolic, Morgan Wedekind and Emma Wren. Colton Donahue and Blake Goodin were both named to the second team.

First team members were required to maintain a 3.20 GPA or better, while second team members were student-athletes whose GPA fell between 3.00 and 3.19. To qualify, student-athletes were expecting to maintain a 3.00 GPA or better and participate in at least 60 percent of the team’s competitions.

Freshman and transfer students were not eligible in their first year of competition, while seniors who competed for a minimum of two years and have met the grade requirements but did not compete in 60 percent of all competitions are also eligible.
