Six people were injured in a Geary county accident Wednesday afternoon on I-70 approximately in the west bound lanes one-half mile west of the 295 exit on the southwest side of Junction City.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported at 12:00 pm, a 2003 STLG Dump Truck (KDOT) driven by Robert K Hayhurst, 52, Junction City, KS was in the left lane slowing down to make a U-turn through a divided cross over. The driver of the KDOT truck activated all emergency lights.

A 1999 Chevy Tahoe drived by Barbara A. Johnson, 73, Dorrance, KS was in the left lane behind the truck and observed the lights being activated and started to slow down.

A 2010 Honda Odyssey driven by Jamie E. Bratcher, 30, Chapman, KS was in the right lane, behind heavy traffic. The driver observed the KDOT truck had already turned in to the cross over but failed to see that there was another vehicle, the 1999 Chevy Tahoe in the inside lane. The driver of the Honda Odyssey pulled in to the left lane to pass slower traffic and noticed that the Chevy Tahoe was directly in front of her at a slower speed.

The driver of the Odyssey attempted to brake but rear ended the Chevy Tahoe.

The Chevy Tahoe continued on about 500 feet exiting the roadway and driving approximately 100 feet in to the north ditch.

The Honda Odyssey spun out in to the north ditch at the same location.

The driver of the Chevy Tahoe, Barbara A. Johnson and passenger Leander F. Johnson, 79, Dorrance, KS were both injured and taken to Geary Community Hospital. Both were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

The driver of the Honda Odyssey, Jamie E. Bratcher was injured and taken to Geary Community Hospital. She was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.

Three minors in the 2010 Honda Odyssey, aged 4, 9 and 7 were all listed as injured. The 9 year old was taken to Geary Community Hospital, and was properly restrained at the time of the accident according to the KHP.

The 7 year old and 4 year old minor were not properly restrained in booster seats according to the KHP; the 7 year old was injured and taken to Salina Regional Health Center, the 4 year old was taken to Wesley Medical Center.

Robert K Hayhurst, the driver of the KDOT vehicle was not injured and was properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
