It’s a familiar scene – you speed, you get pulled over by law enforcement, and then you’re stuck on the side of the road for what seems like ages awaiting your ticket – but by the end of summer next year, that will change.

Digital tickets – the latest technological advancement taking place within the Junction City Police Department.

Newly promoted Police Chief Dan Breci was a guest on ‘J-C Now’ on 1420 AM – The Talk of JC where he talked about digital ticketing.

“We’ve had a company that we contracted with a year ago – New World Systems – and they’re going to be putting in new records management and we’re going to get digital tickets,” said Breci.

Breci said the project cost “a little over a million dollars” that is being funded by asset forfeiture with the JCPD, Geary County Sheriff’s department and Grandview Plaza.

“They can just swipe your drivers license and it will auto-populate a ticket book and so [we] don’t spend 7 to 10 minutes that we normally would on a traffic stop…and we cut down on errors; it will also help the municipal court – it will go right in to their system,” said Breci.

Getting a ticket is never a “pleasant” experience, but digital ticketing aims to create a faster and more efficient process.

Breci said the digital ticketing process will be in effect around June or July 2017.
