Betsy Young has been named the 2015 Ben Kitchens Volunteer of the Year for Junction City / Geary County United Way.

She was surprised with the award at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday. “Totally surprised. This was something I never expected.

Young has been involved with the local United Way for about eight years. She works in the allocation process. “It’s kind of my favorite. I don’t like to go out and ask for money, but I enjoy being able to be on that panel and give it away.”

In the allocations process the funding allotments for the different agencies and organizations served by United Way are recommended to the committee chairs and United Way Board.
