One hospitalized after Geary County crash

GEARY COUNTY – One person was injured in an accident just after 6 p.m. on Monday in Geary County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Caurnest J. Herbert, 24, Mesquite, TX., was attempting to turn East onto Old U.S. 77 northbound in Junction City.

The driver lost control of the Jeep. It slid northeast across the westbound lanes of Old U.S. 77 road, struck the guardrail on the north side of the road.

The Jeep glanced off the guardrail to the southeast and struck the passenger side of a 2007 Chevy Tahoe driven by Stephanie Hawkins, 36, Camilla, GA., which was traveling westbound on Old U.S. 77 Road. 

Hawkins was transported to Geary Community Hospital.

Herbert was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
