Brigade Drop Home Opener

b oneThe Rossville Rattlers ( 1-2 ) used a three-run home run by Danny Mitchell Jr. in the fourth inning to defeat the Junction City Brigade 4-2 Saturday night at Rathert Field. The home run came off Brigade pitcher Pete Ruiz.

Junction City ( 2-1 ) had gone ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third, but Mitchell’s big blast over the right field fence gave the Rattlers enough of a lead to preserve the win in the home opener for the Brigade at Rathert Field. The Brigade had eight hits in the ballgame, but none for extra bases. Junction City hitters walked four times.

Rossville had only two hits, but three batters were hit by pitches, and five more drew walks.

Junction City had defeated Rossville on both Thursday and Friday nights in Rossville.

The Brigade host the Midwest Athletics in a doubleheader Monday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
