The U.S. Economic Development Administration has approved the Flint Hills Regional Council’s request for designation as an Economic Development District. Geary, Riley, Morris,Pottawatomie,Wabaunsee, Lyon, and Chase Counties are included in the EDD.

According to the Director of the Flint Hills Regional Council, the designationhas benefits that will help strengthen the economics of the Flint Hills region. It will also give the region access to federal funds. The mission of EDA is, “to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness, preparing American regionsfor growth and success in the worldwide economy.

Stith said “This designation as Economic Development District will support efforts to work together as a region to enhance the economic viability of our communities through the Flint Hills.”
