Kansas road repair and maintenance are lagging.
That was a key point by State Representative Tom Moxley to a legislative coffee audience in Junction City on Saturday/
The State is borrowing KDOT money to make up for other shortfalls. Moxley noted that as of a couple of weeks ago that total was $455 million. “It means that our roads are not being resurfaced and sealed. ” Moxley said he had talked to the Deputy Secretary of Transportation two weeks ago.
Moxley reported that the State is responsible for 10,000 miles of highways, meaning they must do about 1,200 miles per year of resurfacing and sealing to keep them in good shape. He said in 2015 the State only did 200 miles, and will do another 200 miles this year. Moxley added he’s not sure the state can do 200 miles next year.
