A scheduled Kansas House judiciary committee hearing on drug forfeiture funds for law enforcement did not occur Thursday in Topeka as scheduled.
Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf said the committee reviewed all the scheduled testimony. “Based upon on all the people that had contacted their representatives, due to the overwhelming opposition to the proposed legislation they cancelled the hearing.”
Wolf had explained earlier that the proposed alternatives for the legislation included taking 100% of drug forfeiture funds from law enforcement for the state general fund, sharing the funds on a 50-50 basis, or elimination of drug forfeiture funds.
It appears the issue is not going to come up again this legislative session.
