Geary County and Milford firefighters responded to a blaze at 218 Lakeview Drive in Milford at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the house. While authorities believe it began in the stove area, the specific cause of the fire is still under investigation The residents escaped unharmed, said Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges. “The mother and two kids home at the time of the fire. They were able to get out. They’re being take care of by the Red Cross at this time.”

Berges identified the adult resident at Kelly Slaz and he said the house was owned by Doug Roether. Both have insurance coverage.

Berges put the damage estimate at $25,000.
