Geary County Republicans Favor Cruz

Presidential candidate Ted Cruz topped the vote-getters during the Geary County Republican Party presidential caucus on Saturday at the 4-H / Senior Citizens Center.

County Republican Party officials confirmed that Cruz received 157 votes followed by Donald Trump with 149. Marco Rubio and John Kasic both received 59, and Dr. Ben Carson 1 vote. There were four uncommitted votes and 61 provisional ballots that will have to be evaluated by the State Republican Party.

The turnout for the event was solid. A total of 341 ballots had been provided for those choosing to vote, and more had to be printed when those ran out.

The vote totals were submitted to the State Republican Party to be included in the statewide totals for the candidates. The voter totals will be used to determine the number of delegates from Kansas that will represent each candidate at the Republican National Convention.

Caucus Chair Corrine Fehr stated, “Whover gets the most votes in the state of Kansas, proportionately, that’s how many delegates they get at the national Republican Convention in Ohio in July.”

Prior to the caucus vote speakers representing the different presidential candidates spoke to the large audience in attendance.
