QUICK HITTERS
- Kansas State (10-3, 0-1 Big 12) begins a 2-game road swing Tuesday as the Wildcats travel to Austin, Texas to face Texas (8-5, 0-2 Big 12) at the Frank Erwin Center at 7 p.m. CT.
- K-State will be looking to rebound from its double-overtime setback vs. No. 19/17 West Virginia, 87-83, in the Big 12 opener Saturday. The teams battled through 29 lead changes, including 11 in the second half, to go with 19 ties, before the Mountaineers scored the game’s final 4 points.
- The double-overtime loss was the first in a Big 12 home opener since a 61-53 defeat at the hands of No. 6 Oklahoma on Jan. 10, 2009. The team fell to 50-53 in conference openers, including 7-13 in the Big 12 era.
- K-State also saw its 11-game homecourt winning streak halted in the loss to West Virginia, including an 8-0 mark at home venues this season.
- Saturday’s loss also dropped the Wildcats to 0-3 vs. Top 25 opponents (No. 9/8 North Carolina, and No. 25 Texas A&M).
- Tuesday’s game will be the 31st meeting between K-State and Texas in a series that dates back to 1971. The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 17-13, but the Longhorns own a 13-11 edge in the Big 12 era. Texas swept the season series a year ago, including a 62-49 win at home on March 7.
- K-State has already equaled its win total away from home from 2014-15, posting a 2-2 record, including a 1-1 mark in true road tilts. The Wildcats knocked off Georgia, 68-66, on a last-second shot on Dec. 4 before losing at No. 25 Texas A&M, 78-68, on Dec. 12. The team went 2-13 away from home a season ago, including 1-10 in true road games.
- K-State claimed its 10th non-conference win in the victory over Saint Louis Dec. 29, marking the 9th time in the last 10 seasons that the Wildcats have accomplished that feat, including the first time since 2013-14.
- The key to K-State’s successful start has been its balanced scoring, as 5 different players have led the team in scoring and 6 players have at least 4 double-figure scoring games. The Wildcats started the season with five different leading scorers for the first time since 1998-99.
- A trio of freshmen (Barry Brown, Kamau Stokes and Dean Wade) starred in the West Virginia loss, combining for 48 points on 14-of-29 field goals. Brown collected his 1st career 20-point game to lead the team.
- K-State has used the same lineup in all 13 games and those starters are responsible for 72 percent (694) of the team’s scoring, 63 percent (318) of rebounding, 78 percent (143) of assists and 63 percent (59) of steals.
