Two defendants in the Operation Adabag drug case have been sentenced in federal court to lengthy prison terms.
Geary County Attorney Steve Opat confirmed that Martye Madkins Jr., Junction City, was sentenced to 262 months in the custody of the federal department of corrections. That equates to 21 years and 10 months.
“Albert Banks was sentenced to life. This is based on his criminal history which included prior narcotics convictions, and the enhancements under the federal sentencing guidelines that were available in this case.”
Banks was sentenced on one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Crack Cocaine and six counts of Distributing Crack Cocaine. Madkins was sentenced on one count of Distributing Crack Cocaine and one count of Distributing Crack Cocaine Within 1,000 Feet of an Elementary School.
In May of 2013 more than 90 people were arrested in the Junction City – manhattan area as part of Operation Adabag. The case involved the dismantling of a large crack cocaine trafficking organization that had been under investigation over a 13-month period.
