Beginning Dec. 1, Fort Riley’s Grant, Estes and a portion of 12th Street access control points will be closed on Saturdays. The 12th Street commercial gate will however, remain open on Saturdays for all commercial vehicles.

Fort Riley issued a news release earlier in November containing the information. It stated the changes are necessary to maintain soldiers’ readiness for future training and deployment requirements.

In Junction City, The Military Affairs Director, John Seitz, feels the change will have a serious impact on Grant Avenue businesses. “This was tried one time before and the community outcry convinced Fort Riley they should change that.” Seitz is hopeful officials on Post will look at that again.
