‘Big Red One’ Dining Facilities to Serve Thanksgiving Dinners

fort riley logoTo celebrate the season and show appreciation for all members of the “Big
Red One” family, the 1st Infantry Division is offering Thanksgiving meals
Nov. 25-26 at Fort Riley. Aside from serving first-class meals, food service
Soldiers at two of the post’s two dining facilities are competing to win the
Senior Commander’s Best Culinary Dining Facility award.

In keeping with the Army tradition, officers and senior noncommissioned
officers – including Maj. Gen. Wayne W. Grigsby Jr. and Command Sgt. Maj.
Joseph Cornelison, 1st Inf. Div. command team – will serve Thanksgiving
meals to their Soldiers.

The Thanksgiving meals are open to all Soldiers and civilians. The standard
meal price is $9.05 with a discounted rate of $6.80 offered to family
members of Soldiers ranked specialist and below.

On Nov. 25, the Thanksgiving meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at
Demon’s Diner, located at 694 Pawnee Bluff Road on Main Post. The meal will
include roasted and deep-fried turkey, carved steamship round, honey-glazed
ham, Rock Cornish hen, steamed crab legs, baked lobster tails, green bean
casserole, sweet potato casserole, candied yams, cranberry sauce, pumpkin
soup and a full-service salad bar. Desserts include ranger pudding, holiday
sugar cookies, cupcakes, pudding and assorted pies.

On Nov. 26, the Thanksgiving meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
Devil’s Den, located at 7011 Siebert St. on Custer Hill. The meal includes
netted turkey, roast turkey, ham, steamship round, rotisserie chicken,
mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and green beans. Desserts include assorted
pies, cakes and cookies.
