QUICK HITTERS
• Kansas State continues its homestand on Monday night, as the Wildcats play host to Ivy League member Columbia (1-0) at 8 p.m. CT in the second game of a doubleheader at Bramlage Coliseum. Thewomen’s basketball plays Abilene Christian at 5:30 p.m. CT in the first game.
• The match-up is the second of two Opening Games of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic, which included Friday’s 80-53 win over UMES. K-State plays in the championship round of the tournament, Nov. 23-24, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, beginning with Missouri at 6 p.m. CT on Nov. 23.
• Monday’s game will be just the third meeting with a member of the Ivy League and the first since 1975. The Wildcats are 2-0 all-time against the league, posting a 79-70 win over Yale on Dec. 29, 1952 at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City and a 69-62 win over Penn in the first round of the 1975 NCAA Tournament at the famed Palestra in Philadelphia.
• Picked second in the Ivy League preseason poll, Columbia returns four starters, including German National Team member and first team All-Ivy League pick Maodo Lo, as well as two players who sat out last season.
• K-State is looking to go 2-0 for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons on Monday after posting an 80-53 win over UMES in the season opener. Junior Wesley Iwundu led the Wildcats in five categories, as he posted his fourth career double-double (and first since March 2014) with a career-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Justin Edwards (17) and freshman Barry Brown (17) also scored in double figures.
• K-State is now 87-25 (.776) all-time in season openers dating back to 1903, including 75-9 (.893) in home season openers. The Wildcats are now 22-2 (.916) at Bramlage Coliseum in season openers.
• Friday’s win marked the 40th time that an opponent has been held to 60 points or less under coach Bruce Weber with the Wildcats boasting a 35-5 mark in those contests. UMES connected on just 29.8 percent from the field, including 23.8 percent from 3-point range.
Junior D.J. Johnson made his season debut on Friday, playing in first game since the 2014 NCAA Tournament game vs. Kentucky on March 22, 2014… He scored five points off the bench and pulled down six rebounds in 14 minutes. Overall, seven Wildcats played their official debut in the opener, including freshmen Kamau Stokes, Ron Freeman, Kamau Stokes, Dean Wade and Brown, juniors Austin Budke, Carlbe Ervin II and Zach Winter.
• K-State has a 72-5 (.974) record at home in non-conference play dating back to 2006-07, including a 70-4 (.946) mark during the regular season. The squad has won 61 of its last 64 non-conference home games.
• Weber is 45-7 (.865) at Bramlage Coliseum since taking over as head coach with losses to No. 3 Kansas (2012), Northern Colorado (2013), Baylor (2013), Texas Southern (2014), Georgia (2014), West Virginia (2015) and Texas (2015). The 7 losses have come by a total of 24 points (3.4 ppg.).
