The Geary County Commission has addressed the issue of mental health care for inmates detained in the county detention center.
Chairman Ben Bennett said there had been discussions with the
Advanced Correctional Healthcare organization, the detention centers healthcare contractor.
“We’re adding the mental health and drug and alcohol addiction programs to that contract, and we just approved that today,” said Bennett.
Bennett said that the contract will cost roughly $127,000 per year and will be a savings from when they were trying to provide those services on their own.
The money does come out of the Sheriff’s Department Budget.
