Sooners Faced Lengthy Delay in Getting to Manhattan

According to media reports the Oklahoma Sooners faced a lengthy delay of more than eight hours in getting to Saturday’s football game against Kansas State because of a late arriving plan, and mechanical issues involving that plane that was supposed to transport them to Manhattan. Eventually there were issues with other backup planes that were to be used before the team finally boarded one and made it to Manhattan.

But in the end it didn’t seem to matter to OU, since they routed Kansas State 55-0 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said the Sooners left their facility at two p.m. Friday to go to Oklahoma City ( Will Rogers Airport ) and then take a 40-minute flight to Manhattan. “We didn’t walk into our hotel room until about 12:15 in the morning.” The Sooners had waited at the airport for several hours. “You get reports the plane is going to be here in an hour, one is going to leave Houston in a half-hour, and that changes every hour, is different, and it doesn’t happen.”

Stoops noted by about 8 p.m. the players had not eaten. So staffers and supporters with cars available were asked to go to fast food restaurants to bring back food, “Kind of potluck fast food, try and get 10 burgers, 10 tacos, if we had 10 people get ten whatever, we’d feed our players. And that’s exactly what we did.” Stoops said the Sooners then had their meal potluck. ”

Stoops joked, “Now the players want it every week, so I don’t know if that can happen.”
