Ghost Tours Set for Sunday at Fort Riley

Halloween_ghostYou can learn the stories behind the haunted houses on the historic main post at Fort Riley this Sunday. The annual Ghost Tours are scheduled from 4 – 8 p.m., every 20 minutes during that time beginning at the Artillery Parade Field.

One of the Co-Hosts of the tours for the Fort Riley Historical and Archaeological Society, Ashley Noce, said the tours will stop in front of the Custer House. “We’re going to stop in front of Quarters One. That’s where the commanding general lives.” The tours will include stops in front of a number of other residential homes.

The tours are about one mile long. “We have a tour guide who will be leading the tours, we’ll have tour assistants making sure that everybody stays in one big group, and then as we stop at a lot of the different homes there will be actors and actresses telling the story of each individual home.”

Co-Host Katie Molnar said, “Some of our storytellers will actually be some of the people that had the first-hand accounts of the ghosts, so it’ll be really great to get that kind of perspective. It’s nice to hear a story, but it’s even better to hear it from the person that witnessed it.

Baby strollers are welcome on the tours. There is no charge to attend. More tour guide volunteers are needed.
