Trevone Boykin, one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 124 yards and two scores in TCU’s 52-45 win over Kansas State in Manhattan Saturday night.
The Horned Frogs had to rally from an 18 point halftime deficit to earn the victory.
Boykin told a postgame press conference his team scored early on their first couple of drives in the first half but then hit a wall. “So when we came back we really just after halftime we really just did some soul searching and just tried to find ourself and really just play football.”
Boykin noted a halftime speech by TCU head coach Gary Patterson helped. “Once he gave us that halftime speech and talked to us at halftime and told us what we needed to do, we kind of calmed down and we played TCU football.”
For Kansas State senior quarterback Joe Hubener made his fourth career start under center. He completed 13 of 33 passes for 157 yards, and rushed for career-highs of 26 attempts for 111 yards and four touchdowns.
TCU plays at Iowa State next Saturday, while Kansas State hosts Oklahoma.
