Chapman USD 473 recognized their Adopt-A-School Unit Friday night during the home Chapman High football game against Marysville.
The school district partners with the 5th Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley
and the 5-4 CAV will soon be deploying to the middle east.
“Tonight was about honoring them and thanking them for all of the time and commitment they have put to our schools,” said Lacee Sell, USD 473 Superintendent. “Keep in mind this is a volunteer effort, so they volunteer all of their hours and so forth, and it’s just amazing the time, effort and energy they put in.”
While honoring and recognizing the 5-4 CAV the district also re-signed the charters signifying the partnership between the Unit and School District, and gave the Unit a partnership flag signifying well wishes, and safe travels while the troopers are away.
The Commander of the 5-4 CAV Lt. Col. Brad Duplessis said that the partnership the Unit has with the School District and Chapman Community is the strongest he’s ever seen.
“I’ve been affiliated both as an Army kid and as a Soldier with the United States Army for 42 years and I’ll just tell you, it’s the strongest partnership I’ve ever seen between an installation and a community, and it’s not just with the school it’s with the broader Chapman community as a whole,” said Lt. Col. Duplessis.
