JCHS Cross Country Invitational

Myrissa Humphreys led the Junction City Lady Jays in the JCHS cross country invitational at Milford State Park Saturday with a fifth place finish in 19:47.2.

Humphreys wanted to get off to a good start in the race. “Get into a good pack that would carry me to the one mile because coach always says that the one mile, where you are then is pretty much where you’re going to finish. So I just wanted to get in a good place then.”

Fifth place in a 10-team meet is a good finish. “Yeah it is, I tried to get that 4th but it kind of slipped away from me. But I’m verry happy with fifth place.”

Briona Jensen of Junction City finished 13th 10:55.6.

The top individual runner was Gabriela Reyna of Manhattan in 18:51.8.

In the team competition Manhattan captured first place with the low score of 29 points. Junction City finished fourth with 110 points.

Manhattan won the j-v girls competition, while Junction City finished third out of six teams.

In the boys varsity race Jackson Schroeder of Manhattan claimed first place in 16:16.4 while teammates Cooper Schroeder and Josue Alvarado finished third and fourth respectively in 16:32.5 and 16:46.6.

For Junction City the top finisher was Miguel Espinosa in 24th in 17:46.8 and Nick Arneson finished in 27th 17:56.5.

Manhattan won the j-v boys race while Junction City finished fifth out of ten teams.

Manhattan won the team title with a score of 31 points while the Blue Jays finished 8th with 172.
