Ty Zimmerman and Curry Sexton to Help Coach Blue Jays in Football

Two former standouts for the Kansas State Wildcats will be assistant football coaches for the Junction City Blue Jays this upcoming season.

Head coach Randall Zimmerman confirmed his son, Ty Zimmerman, will coach the defensive backs, and Curry Sexton will coach the receivers.  He noted that Ty is still has hopes of getting an invitation from a National Football League team. “He wants to coach down the road. ” Randall  Zimmeman added, “Right now he’s going to help us out. Hopefully for our kids he’s able to stick around, but hopefully for our kids he gets a call too. It’s a win-win situation. In my mind it is.”

Ty Zimmerman played safety for Kansas State where he was a two-time All Big 12 selection,  and during his high school years with the Blue Jays played some safety, receiver, and quarterback. He was a member of the 2008 Junction City team that captured the Class 6A state championship.

Sexton was a receiver for the Wildcats, and captured All-Big 12 second-team honors last season.

Randall Zimmerman said Sexton applied for the coaching job, and noted that  Curry and Ty were  buddies all the way through their K-State years. “I coached him in the Shrine game his senior year. Just got to know him a little bit that way, just a quality person. He’s going to be really good with our kids. ”

Before playing at Kansas State, Sexton played his high school football for the Abilene Cowboys.
