In celebration of the “Big Red One” and the 240th birthday of the Army itself, the 1st Infantry Division will host its annual Victory Week June 8-12. The public is invited to attend.
The Victory Celebration on June 6 will function as a prelude to Victory Week. The 7 p.m. event will be at Rally Point Field on post, and will feature live music, including the 1st Infantry Division Band, food, carnival games, and fireworks.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend Victory Week sporting events, which will begin on June 9 with combatives, and event that will continue through Thursday. Also beginning June 9, there will be Soldiers competing in 5-on-5 basketball, softball, soccer, flag football, golf, tug of war, arm wrestling, the Victory Warrior Competition, volleyball and the Mission Essential Fitness Competitiion.
On June 10 competition begins for fishing, water polo, weight lifting, archery, color guard and the Victory 10-Miler race.
Traditionally, the names of troops who died in the previous year while serving with the division are etched into stones that are unveiled in Victory Park during Victory Week. With no new stones to add this year, all those from the 1st Infantry Division who have made the ultimate sacrifice will be remembered in a Memorial and Rededication Ceremony at 9 a.m. June 9 in Victory Park.
Victory Week concludes June 12 with a division-wide run at 6:30 a.m. on Custer Hill followed by the Victory Cup Awards Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at Custer Hill Parade Field.
