Top athletic awards were presented at Junction City High School Wednesday night.
The Bert McKinsey Award that goes to the senior male athlete making the biggest overall contribution to the JCHS athletic department was presented to Tanner Lueker. He was surprised.
“Means a lot, because this award has been around a for a long time so it feels like I actually got something done here, and I love it.” Lueker played football and basketball for the Blue Jays.
The Kim Kilpatrick Award is presented to the senior female athlete making the biggest overall contribution. The recipient for 2015 is cross country and track and field athlete Brianna Pace. “I didn’t think I was going to get it so it’s a good surprise. ”
The Mike Champ Award for academic and athletic excellence was presented to Jake Bazan, wrestler and football player for the Blue Jays. And the Lady Jay Academic / Athletic Award went to Olivia Diestelkamp. Bazan also received am athletic wrestling scholarship to Kansas Newman, while Diestelkamp also received a volleyball athletic scholarship to Pratt County Community College.
