LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — The University of Kansas is preparing to exhibit World War II letters between Bob Dole and his family.

The university announced Tuesday the exhibit will be available online and on display at the Dole Institute in Lawrence. It will contain correspondence between the former Republican senator and members of his family from September 1941, when he was a student at Kansas, through his military service years up to April 1947.

Dole reported for duty in 1943 and was seriously wounded in Italy in April 1945. He then spent several years recovering from his injuries at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Michigan.

Dole Institute archivist Audrey Coleman says the letters tell a story common to many on both the home front and the warfront of World War II.
