Junction City residents have received a letter informing them of a drinking water violation in the City’s water system.
The City’s municipal services director Greg McCaffrey confirmed it was a recent problem at one location, which was in the area of Lacy Drive and Spring Valley Road.
A high sample of a naturally occurring disinfectant byproduct in the water system in that area, caused an annual sample average that includes four quarterly tests to exceed a parts per million limit set by state and federal agencies.
McCaffrey noted there is no immediate risk to anyone, and the letter is an advisory notice.
“And we’re required to send that notice out by the State when indeed we violate as far as that regulatory limit. Short term duration, what is the City doing about this since that violation had occurred back in August – September is we have done an aggressive flushing of that water system over in the area of Fire Station Two, which is over near Lacy and Spring Valley Road.”
The letter was sent out to the community since the water circulates all over throughout the City’s water system.
Long term the City is in the process of redesigning the treatment process that addresses the issue.
