Washburn Rural jumped out to a big early lead and rolled to a 70-39 victory over Junction City in the first round of the girls Class 6A Substate Basketball Tournament.

Washburn Rural ( 15-6 ) got double figure scoring from Paige Cunningham with 23 points and Jordyn Musselman with 21 enroute to the win. Junction City ( 4-17 ) was led by Alana Kramer with 12 points.

Lady Jay coach Nate Parks noted that Cunningham and Musselman held it together for the Lady Blues in the first half. “I think they had everything but about seven of their points. ”

The game was played at Washburn Rural. On the other side of the bracket Derby defeated Wichita East 56-35.
