ABILENE- One person was injured in an accident involving five vehicles just before 7 p.m. on Monday in Dickinson County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 tractor and trailer-hauling I-beams was westbound on Interstate 70 near mile marker 279.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway, losing control of the trailer.
The trailer jackknifed and detached from the power unit.
The trailer traveled across the roadway to the north, struck the guardrail on the north side of the highway, overturned and spilled the I-beams onto the roadway. The trailer came to rest in the north ditch.
Four westbound vehicles struck an I-beam and other road debris.
One driver Constance M. Welborn, 61, Abilene, was transported to Salina Regional Medical Center
The driver of the semi Vaughn B. Ansel, 23, Peru, IN., was not injured.
The KHP reported all were properly restrained at the time of the accident.
