The New Fort Riley Elementary School has Officially Been Topped Off

Geary USD 475 and Hutton Construction held a ceremony Thursday afternoon marking a major milestone in the construction of the new Fort Riley Elementary School, placing the final beam in place.

The topping off ceremony included members of the District and FRES ONEHutton Construction signing the beam before it was hoisted into place.

“My name is on the beam, however, it will not be seen but that’s okay,” said Kim Milleson, Board of Education President. “It’s good to put your mark on something that’s very important to this community, to our kids, to Fort Riley, and to our District. I am happy to put my name on that beam.”

USD 475 broke ground on the new $22 million school in April. It is FRES TWObeing built to replace the current 60 year old school. The new 76,700 sq. ft. school will have space for 500 K-5 students.

With the final beam in place the Hutton Construction can begin closing in the school. They did report that construction is still on schedule to open in August, just in time for the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
