With Tax Season upon us the Junction City/Geary County United Way is once again hosting a VITA program in Junction City.
The Volunteer Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is a volunteer service that provides
low to moderate income families with free tax preparation. Individuals and households with a gross income less than $52,000 are eligible for the free service.
“It’s a really wonderful opportunity for people to have someone professionally prepare their taxes and get them submitted,” said Ailleen Cray, Junction City/Geary County United Way Executive Director.
To schedule an appointment you must call the United Way office at (785) 238-2117. Appointments are being scheduled for Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. from through April 13th.
Cray added that spots are filling up quickly and is encouraging people to call soon to schedule an appointment.
Once you have made an appointment, things you will need to bring with you are:
- Proof of identification
- All wage and earning statement forms (W-2, 1099)
- Social Security Cards for spouse and dependents, those filing jointly both spouses must be present
- Bank account routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit (blank check)
- A copy of last year’s federal and state returns if available
- Any other pertinent documents or papers
Appointments are held at the United Way office located at 139 E 8th Street in Junction City.
