Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt talked to a law enforcement audience Thursday evening in

Junction City about the the consumer protection work done by the A-G’s office. He wants to reach out to military towns during his next four years in office.
“Because there a lot of crooks and fraudsters that they know that there is a unique population in communities that have a substantial military base prescence. And they target military families and others who may be here for awhile, and then they’re off to Kentucky, and then they’re off to Georgia or whatever it is and they prey on that model.”
Schmidt added it’s not just something he figured out, but officials looking at their counterparts in other states with large military installations, and him finally saying why isn’t Kansas doing a better job of that. “I think it’s entirely appropriate. Kansas state law provides for enhanced penalties for crooks and fraudsters that rip off military families. We ought to do a better job of partnering to enforce on that.”
Schmidt spoke at the Geary County Convention Center during the first annual Crimestoppers banquet in Geary County.
