Junction City Fire Fighters responded to 904 W 6th Street in the rear of the Intrust
Bank building at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a downed power line.
Battalion Chief Rick Rooks confirmed that an excavator being used to demolish a nearby building at 910 W 6th Street, the former Sixth Street Alignment building, had hit a guy wire supporting a power pole, which caused the power pole to fall near the bank. That caused about a two-block area to lose electricity.
No injuries were reported. Two vehicles parked behind Intrust Bank did receive damage when the power line fell on the vehicles. A small brush fire was also ignited about a half block away but it was quickly contained. Junction City firefighters were on scene for approximately two hours before Westar Energy could secure the energized lines.
The stop light at 6th and Garfield was out due to the power outage. Rooks reported that Intrust Bank did close for the day ( Wednesday ) due to the power outage, and that the Dickson Learning Center was on back up generator.
Westar Energy estimated the power outage would last for a four or five hour period.
