Junction City, Kansas – January 22, 2015 – Walmart announced today that the company has submitted plans to Junction City to build a new Neighborhood Market at the southeast corner of Highway 77 and McFarland Road.

The proposed 41,000 square-foot Neighborhood Market will include a pharmacy and fueling station.

“We are excited to present a proposal that will expand shopping opportunities for our Junction City customers,” said Nick Berkeley, Walmart vice president and regional manager. “We look forward to working with the community to enhance the business corridor, grow the retail tax base and provide new career opportunities to residents.”

The proposed Walmart Neighborhood Market will offer fresh produce and a full line of groceries from all the leading brand names, including organic and natural selections, as well as a wide variety of meat and bakery options. In addition to groceries, the store will feature health and beauty aids, pet products, cleaning supplies and a pharmacy with a full range of products and services.

Walmart operates 74 stores and nine Sam’s Clubs in Kansas employing approximately 19,968 associates. The average hourly full-time wage for associates in Kansas is $12.26. Last year, Walmart collected more than $330 million in taxes and fees on behalf of the state of Kansas and paid an additional $59 million. Additionally, Walmart spent nearly $685 million for merchandise and services supporting 18,748 supplier jobs in Kansas last year, according to Dun & Bradstreet. Walmart has been a proud community partner in the state and donated $8.7 million to nonprofits in 2013.
